Alameda Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare was the third largest nursing home in Middlesex County in the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility offered a total of 250 beds, which is 96 above the average for nursing homes in Middlesex County during the first quarter of 2026. Its daily census reached an average of 220.4 residents over that time.

The CMS awarded Alameda Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare an overall rating of 4 out of 5, higher than the New Jersey state average rating of 3.4 for nursing homes.

New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home Menlo was the county’s largest, reporting 328 beds available, while Embassy Manor at Edison Nursing and Rehabilitation held second at 280 beds.

As of Q1 2026, no fines or penalties were issued to Alameda Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare.

According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, America’s older population is expanding as younger age groups decline. The number of Americans 65 and older grew by 13% between 2020 and 2024, while the population under 18 shrank by 1.7%. The country’s older adult population has increased significantly in the past century, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study found that close to half of this group—roughly 28 million people—may need long-term services and support. More than a third may require nursing home care at some point, the study predicts.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
