For the first quarter of 2026, New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home Menlo had the highest capacity among nursing homes in Middlesex County, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The data shows the facility provided 328 beds for residents, surpassing the Middlesex County average by 174 beds as of the same quarter. The center served an average of 193.3 residents throughout the period.

The CMS awarded New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home Menlo an overall 5 out of 5 rating, a figure above the 3.4 average for facilities statewide in New Jersey.

Embassy Manor at Edison Nursing and Rehabilitation was the county’s second largest facility in that quarter with 280 beds, while Alameda Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare held third place, equipped with 250 beds.

As of the first quarter of 2026, New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home Menlo reported no fines or penalties issued.

In all, Middlesex County, New Jersey, had three public nursing home facilities.

According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the national older adult population is rising, while younger age brackets are declining. The 65-and-older demographic grew by 13% between 2020 and 2024, whereas the under-18 group dropped by 1.7%. Over the past century, the U.S. population of older adults has expanded substantially, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study indicated that about half of this age group, accounting for roughly 28 million people, may need long-term services and support. The study also projected that more than a third might require nursing home care in the future.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
