Rutgers wide receiver DT Sheffield has been named to the 2025 Paul Hornung Award watch list, according to an announcement from the Louisville Sports Commission. The award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, recognizes the most versatile player in major college football.

Sheffield joins Rutgers for his first season after accumulating 190 receptions, 2,670 yards, and 35 receiving touchdowns across 41 games at both the FBS and junior college levels. In his most recent season at North Texas in 2024, he earned honorable mention All-America and First Team All-American Athletic Conference honors. That year, he recorded 66 receptions for 822 yards and 11 touchdowns. His touchdown total led the conference and ranked seventh nationally. He also had four games with at least 100 receiving yards.

Beyond his role as a receiver, Sheffield made contributions as a returner with a total of 20 plays gaining at least 25 yards, including receptions, kick returns, punt returns, and one rush. Originally from Corinth, Mississippi, Sheffield is now attending graduate school at Rutgers in the adult and continuing education program.

The Scarlet Knights recently completed their second consecutive winning season and achieved their highest points per game average since joining the Big Ten Conference. The upcoming season will begin on August 28 against Ohio and will feature four straight home games at SHI Stadium—something not seen since five consecutive home openers in 2007.

Season and single game tickets are currently available for purchase online or by phone through ScarletKnights.com/tickets or by calling 866-445-GORU (4678). Season ticket holders receive several benefits such as exclusive access to parking on Busch campus near SHI Stadium, special pricing options including payment plans, early ticket access opportunities throughout the year, and support for student-athletes.
