Rutgers football is conducting its sixth annual coat drive as part of the Chop4Change initiative, in partnership with RWJBarnabas Health. This year, the Scarlet Knights will distribute 540 new winter coats to elementary and middle school students across New Jersey.

Macy’s is again supporting Chop4Change by providing discounted coats and gift cards for the sixth year in a row. Ed Nugent from Red Door Real Estate, a Rutgers Athletics partner, has contributed by purchasing 150 coats for the effort.

Rutgers football student-athletes plan to visit several RWJBarnabas Health hospitals during December to help deliver the coats. The donations are being made in collaboration with RWJBarnabas Health’s Community Health team and will benefit non-profit organizations connected to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, Jersey City Medical Center, Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

Over the past five years, Chop4Change has donated more than 2,000 new winter coats. The program has also provided holiday meal gift cards, educational headsets during the pandemic, school supplies for local schools attended by players, support for veteran groups, and CPR and AED training for youth football coaches. Since 2020, these efforts have raised over $550,000.
