Five players from the Rutgers football team have been named to the Phil Steele Preseason All-Big Ten list. The recognized players are linebacker Dariel Djabome, offensive lineman Kwabena Asamoah, running back CJ Campbell Jr., wide receiver DT Sheffield, and defensive lineman Eric O’Neill.
Dariel Djabome was previously an All-Big Ten Third Team selection in his first season as a starter. In 2024, he ranked fifth in the Big Ten with 8.1 tackles per game, totaling 105 stops overall. This made him the first Scarlet Knight to reach triple figures since Olakunle Fatukasi in 2020. He also led Rutgers in tackles for seven out of thirteen games and recorded five outings with ten or more tackles.
Kwabena Asamoah was voted honorable mention All-Big Ten last season and enters 2025 with experience from 28 collegiate games and 21 starts. Last year, he started all thirteen games at right guard, contributing to Rutgers achieving its best points per game since 2008 and fourth-most total offense yards in program history.
CJ Campbell Jr., who is new to the Scarlet Knights this season, was previously named Third Team All-American Athletic Conference at FAU last year. He rushed for 844 yards and scored eleven touchdowns while adding forty receptions for 466 yards.
DT Sheffield was selected as honorable mention All-America and First Team All-American Athletic Conference at North Texas in 2024. He recorded sixty-six receptions for 822 yards and eleven touchdowns during that season.
Eric O’Neill joins Rutgers after appearing in thirty-eight career games with thirty-five starts elsewhere. Last year at James Madison, he earned All-America honors by producing fifty-two tackles with eighteen-and-a-half for loss and thirteen sacks.
The Scarlet Knights are coming off their second consecutive winning season and will open their 2025 campaign with four straight home games at SHI Stadium.
