Rutgers men’s soccer team secured a 4-1 win over James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia on Friday night. The victory marked head coach Jim McEldery’s 170th career win and his 43rd at Rutgers.

Joschi Schelb contributed with a goal and an assist, bringing his total to five points for the season. Amer Lukovic, Andrew Kitch, and Devon Stopek also scored for Rutgers. Lukovic’s goal came during his debut for the Scarlet Knights and was his 63rd career goal. Both Kitch and Stopek recorded their first collegiate goals in this match.

James Madison managed to score early in the second half through Diego Ossa, but Rutgers responded with two more goals to secure the result. Eight of Rutgers’ nine goals this season have come from newcomers, with Stopek being the only returning player to score so far.

Goalkeeper Ciaran Dalton made two saves during the match, maintaining his position as tenth all-time at Rutgers with 177 career saves. Dalton and Nick Collins are the only players who have played every minute of all three matches this season.

This was the first meeting between Rutgers and James Madison, giving Rutgers a 1-0 record against JMU. The last time Rutgers scored four goals in a match was against Northeastern on October 21, 2023.

Rutgers will continue its trip in Virginia with a game against William & Mary on September 1.
