The Rutgers men’s soccer team, ranked No. 18 nationally, will travel to face No. 15 Maryland on Tuesday night in a top-20 matchup. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.

Rutgers comes into the contest with a 7-2-2 record overall and a 2-1-1 mark in Big Ten play. In their most recent match, the Scarlet Knights defeated Wisconsin 4-2 at home, extending their perfect home record to 6-0 this season.

The match against Wisconsin saw both teams create opportunities early, but Camron Boumsong gave Rutgers an initial lead with a bicycle kick goal in the 27th minute. After Wisconsin tied the score early in the second half, Andrew Kitch quickly put Rutgers back ahead off an assist from Joschi Schelb. Shortly after, Nick Collins scored on a header from a corner kick by Schelb to give Rutgers a two-goal cushion. Wisconsin responded with another goal in the 73rd minute, but Dan Karsten secured the win for Rutgers with a late free-kick goal following a red card against Wisconsin.

Goalkeeper Ciaran Dalton continues to add to his legacy at Rutgers, now ranking fifth all-time in career games played (58) and tied for sixth in career saves (213). Dalton made his 200th career save earlier this season against Ohio State.

The Scarlet Knights re-entered the United Soccer Coaches National Poll on October 7 for the first time since 2021 and are one of five Big Ten schools currently ranked nationally along with Michigan (No. 13), Maryland (No. 15), Indiana (No. 20), and Washington (No. 22). They are also ranked No. 16 in RPI and tied for third place in conference standings with ten points.

This season’s roster includes seven returning players who started ten or more games last year, as well as seven new transfers who have already contributed goals and assists across various matches.

Maryland enters Tuesday’s match unbeaten at home this season, recently defeating Michigan and led offensively by Stephane Njike with four goals and two assists so far.

Rutgers holds a historical record of four wins, eleven losses, and two draws against Maryland but has won each of their last two meetings.

Looking ahead, Rutgers will host No. 22 Washington on Friday night during Homecoming weekend celebrations which include special events such as carnival games and giveaways for fans attending at home.
