The Rutgers men’s soccer team has introduced a new program crest. Head coach Jim McElderry stated, “The Rutgers men’s soccer program and Rutgers University both have incredible histories. With this crest, we are first honoring Rutgers University and its many unique qualities. At the same time reminding us all of the year the men’s soccer program was established and how proud we are to continue to represent the university, our alums and the countless Rutgers soccer supporters.”
The crest includes various Scarlet Knight symbols such as the primary block R, a sword, and the New Jersey state outline. It is shaped like a shield, symbolizing RU athletics, with 1938 marking the team’s inaugural season at the bottom.
Additionally, it highlights campus features like the Raritan River and bridge piers representing the John A. Lynch Sr. Memorial Bridge that connects different campuses. The crest will appear on digital graphics, print materials, and be used throughout future seasons.
McElderry expressed excitement about wearing the new crest: “We look forward to wearing the new Rutgers Men’s Soccer crest with immense pride.”
