Rutgers women’s soccer head coach Mike O’Neill has announced that Olivia Bodmer, Gabriela Gil, and Allie Post will serve as team captains for the 2025 season. The three players have been key contributors to the program’s ongoing streak of 13 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
“Olivia, Gabi and Allie exemplify what it means to be captains in the Rutgers Women’s Soccer program,” said O’Neill. “Their leadership set the standard for our team culture—built on trust, accountability and a relentless effort on a daily basis. Through their voice, positive example, and unwavering dedication, they’ve established an environment where every player is supported and driven to compete together to win the day.”
Bodmer returns as captain for a second straight year as she enters her redshirt junior season. In 2024, she was named Third Team All-North Region, earned spots on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team and Academic All-Big Ten, and received Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week honors in October. She started all 21 games at goalkeeper last season, recording seven solo shutouts (eight combined), a goals-against average of 0.99, and made 73 saves. Bodmer helped Rutgers achieve seven consecutive shutouts during a 10-match unbeaten streak and saved all three penalties faced in a shootout win over USC in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals.
Gil has overcome injuries during her first two years with Rutgers but has established herself as one of the top midfielders in the Big Ten Conference. After missing her freshman year due to injury, Gil started the first 12 matches of 2024, scoring two goals and providing two assists. Her penalty kick in the final minutes against then-No. 1 Michigan State secured a tie for Rutgers during its unbeaten run. Gil was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week following that performance and was ranked No. 32 among freshmen nationally by TopDrawerSoccer.
Post has played an increasingly significant role over her three seasons at Rutgers. Last season she appeared in all 21 matches with 18 starts, ranking second on the team with four goals while also adding two assists. As a senior from Mountainside, N.J., Post leads current Scarlet Knights with appearances in 50 career matches.
The Scarlet Knights will begin their 2025 campaign on August 14 against NJIT at Yurcak Field. Parking and admission remain free for all home contests.
