Rutgers women’s soccer secured a 3-1 victory over Michigan on Sunday at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, New Jersey. The Scarlet Knights improved their record to 4-7-4 overall and 2-7-1 in conference play with the win.
The team established control early, outshooting the Wolverines 19-9 overall and holding a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal. Ashley Baran opened the scoring for Rutgers in the 24th minute, converting a fastbreak opportunity assisted by Olivia Russomanno. Russomanno’s assist marked her third of the season, leading the team.
Nata Ramirez extended Rutgers’ lead twelve minutes later with a long-range goal, assisted by Adela Vasakova and Abigail Cox. Both Vasakova and Cox recorded their first assists as members of the Scarlet Knights.
Michigan responded in the 58th minute with a fastbreak goal that narrowed Rutgers’ lead to one. However, Baran scored again late in the match, sending a shot from distance over Michigan’s goalkeeper in the 86th minute to secure the win. This was Baran’s second goal of the game and fourth of the season; it also marked her second career multi-goal performance.
Goalkeeper Olivia Bodmer made three saves during the second half, increasing her season total to 62 saves.
Before kickoff, Rutgers recognized its five seniors: Rachel Quigley, Olivia Bodmer, Marcia Ojo, Allie Post, and Nata Ramirez. All participated in Sunday’s match, with Quigley making her second start of the season as goalkeeper.
Rutgers will conclude its regular season next Sunday with an away game against Maryland at 1 p.m. in College Park.
