Rutgers University’s women’s volleyball team secured a win over Washington in four sets on Friday afternoon at College Ave Gym in New Brunswick. The Scarlet Knights defeated the Huskies, who are ranked in the top 50 of the RPI, with set scores of 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, and 25-20.

Senior Tara Garvey led Rutgers with a season-high 18 kills. She was one of three Scarlet Knights to reach double-digit kills; sophomore Aspen Maxwell had 12 kills with a .310 hitting percentage, and senior Lexi Visintine added 10 kills along with eight digs and three aces in her final collegiate match.

The team recorded a total of 12 service aces during the match. Junior Jenna DeLaMater served six aces, which marks the highest by a Rutgers player in a Big Ten match since 2021 and is her career best. The team’s season total reached 204 aces, setting a new record for the program since the rally era began in 2008 and surpassing the previous mark of 156 from 2011. Visintine completed her college career with 104 aces over four years, ranking second most for any Scarlet Knight during this period.

Sophomore Lily Bolen registered her eleventh double-double of the year by recording 27 assists and eleven digs. Classmate Alleigh Dutton contributed fourteen digs. At the net, sophomore Natalie Robinson made six blocks while Maxwell and redshirt freshman Mira McCool each tallied three.

The first set saw Rutgers take an early lead before Washington tied it up multiple times. The Scarlet Knights closed out the frame on a late run to secure victory. In set two, Rutgers built an early advantage but had to regain momentum after Washington pulled ahead briefly; Garvey notched six kills during this stretch.

Washington took set three after several ties throughout the frame despite Rutgers’ efforts to reclaim control late in the set. In the fourth and final set, both teams traded points until Rutgers went on a decisive run following an even start; Garvey again led offensively as Maxwell and Robinson combined for the match-winning block.
