Rutgers men’s soccer midfielder Joschi Schelb has been named Co-Offensive Big Ten Player of the Week following his recent performances. This marks Schelb’s first Big Ten weekly honor and is the first for a Rutgers player since Joey Zalinsky received Defensive Player of the Week on August 27, 2024.
Schelb scored four goals over two matches, contributing to Rutgers’ victories over James Madison University (4-1) and William & Mary (4-1). Against JMU, he scored once, and then recorded three goals in the opening 22 minutes against William & Mary. His hat trick, completed in under ten minutes, is notable as it is the first by a Scarlet Knight since Jason Wright’s performance against FGCU in September 2016 and the first in a win since 2015. It also stands as the first hat trick by any Big Ten player since 2023.
With five goals this season and 18 in his career, Schelb has opened scoring in each of Rutgers’ last three games. He currently leads both Rutgers and the conference with 11 points, five goals, 14 shots, and nine shots on target. He shares team-best marks with one assist and one game-winning goal.
Rutgers will conclude its four-match road trip at Princeton on Friday, September 5 at 7 p.m.
“Schelb netted four goals this past week, helping RU go 2-0 with wins over JMU (4-1) and William & Mary (4-1),” according to Rutgers Athletics.
