Middlesex County Democratic Organization issued the following announcement.
Juneteenth, or Emancipation Day, is a day on which honor and respect are paid for the sufferings of slavery. Juneteenth is a day to pray for peace and liberty for all.
In the words of President Barack Obama in 2016, “Today, no matter our race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation, we recommit ourselves to working to free modern-day slaves around the world and to honoring in our own time the efforts of those who fought so hard to steer our country truer to our highest ideals.”
