Understanding and recognizing known risk factors for mental health decline is the first step of prevention

It is a common misconception that developing a mental health disorder is simply inevitable for some people.
In reality, while there is no guaranteed way to prevent mental illness, there are things everyone can do to promote emotional resilience and reduce the risk of developing a mental health disorder.
Understanding and recognizing known risk factors for mental health decline is the first step of prevention. Combat more common culprits, such as insufficient sleep or physical activity, by making a mindful commitment to take care of your mind and body. Routine medical care is also important, as it offers a way to screen for early warning signs of mental illness.
Remember: there is always hope. While these strategies will not always be enough to combat the onset of mental illness, prevention can play a critical role in safeguarding against many more serious mental health disorders.
