The holiday season is packed with social events and celebrations that often include alcohol. If you’re attending these gatherings, you may feel pressured to join in the festivities.

Still, there are many reasons you may want to avoid having a drink. Whether you’re in recovery, planning on driving, or just not in the mood, having a plan in place to turn down alcohol can help you maintain these boundaries while still having a good time.

Not sure what to say if someone offers you a drink? Keep these go-to phrases in mind:

 “I’m driving tonight.”

 “I’m okay for now.”

 “No thank you.”

And remember: you never owe someone an explanation for choosing not to drink.
