Did you know there’s a scientific explanation behind the advice to “get some fresh air”?
Exposure to the sun stimulates production of serotonin, a chemical known to help boost moods. Sun exposure can also help regulate your REM cycle, helping you feel more well-rested after catching up on sleep.
In the winter months, it can be challenging to get your so-called daily dose of Vitamin D from the sun. If you’re struggling with a case of the winter blues, try these tricks to increase your sun exposure:
Make an effort to get out for a brisk walk in the morning — even if it’s only five minutes.
If you can’t get outside, open a window and sit next to it while you work or relax. Invest in a light therapy lamp to combat the effects of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
