We're officially halfway through Mental Wellness Month! 

Celebrated each January, Mental Wellness Month aims to remind people just how important it is to take care of mental health year-round. It's especially crucial in the colder winter months and post-holiday season, where rates of seasonal depression and loneliness tend to be higher.

This month and beyond, here are a few ways to improve and maintain your mental wellness:

Spend extra time with your loved ones. Regular social interaction has been shown to boost mood and is a protective factor against mental health challenges.

Prioritize self-care. Give your body plenty of sleep, exercise, and nutritious food. Carve out time for your hobbies as well as relaxation.

Don't be afraid to ask for help. If you're struggling with your mental health, talking to a trusted friend -- or a professional therapist -- can help alleviate the burden and allow you to move through challenges more easily.
