On March 16, 2023, at approximately 11:07 a.m., New Brunswick Police Officers investigated a shooting incident that occurred inside a residence within the 100 block of Lee Avenue. The preliminary investigation indicates a verbal dispute between a female and a male occurred inside the residence. During the altercation the female suspect shot the male victim, a 36 year old resident of New Brunswick, striking him in the chest. The victim exited the residence and was brought to an area hospital by a good Samaritan where he received treatment and is listed in stable condition. Within hours, the suspect was located and taken into police custody. The suspect has been identified as Janai Martinez (34 year old resident of Somerset, NJ) and charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose.
